    Substitute Handbook
    This handbook provides substitutes with an overview of the general procedures, guidelines and pay rates for Glen Ellyn School District 41. A new Substitute Handbook is coming soon.

    Substitute Requirements
    Substitute Teachers: Must hold a valid Illinois professional educator license (PEL) or a valid Illinois substitute license.

    Substitute Aides: Must hold a valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) or a valid Illinois Substitute License or a valid Illinois Paraprofessional Educator License.

    Additional Requirements: Prior to starting employment as a substitute in District 41, all substitutes must submit to a state and federal background check, physical and other additional employment paperwork. Once the paperwork is complete, new subs must attend training before starting work in the schools.

    Pay structure for substitute teaching

    Certified Positions Rate of Pay
    Daily Certified Teaching Position (first 19 days) $120.00
    Certified Teaching after 20 days (cumulative) $135.00
    Certified Teaching after 30 days (cumulative) $150.00
    Specialized substitute positions such as Speech Pathologists, Psychologists, Social Workers, School Nurses, Special Education teachers, ESL teachers, Foreign Language teachers and Bilingual Teachers $285.00
    Retired D41 Teacher $150.00
    Noncertified Positions Rate of Pay
    Daily Paraeducator Position $100.00
    Long-term Positions Rate of Pay
    Certified Teaching long term assignments of 30-90 days
    ***(cumulative not consecutive, within reason, to be paid retroactively after 30 day criteria met)
    Noncertified Position $110.00
