Will D41 have COVID-19 testing for the 2021-22 school year?
Yes. Screening tests for SARS-CoV-2 can support in-person learning by identifying infected persons who are asymptomatic and without known or suspected exposure to SARS-CoV-2. Screening tests are performed to identify persons who may be contagious so that measures can be taken to prevent further transmission. Weekly saliva screening testing will be offered unvaccinated staff and students at school this year through SHIELD Illinois. SHIELD Illinois saliva testing will also be available to be deployed for outbreak situations for more frequent testing as needed.

SHIELD Testing Demonstration
NOTE: All SHIELD testing in District 41 is done AT SCHOOL. Parents are not expected to administer this test for their students.
Results Information:
Anticipated result turnaround time is 24 hours or less. No news is good news. You will receive a phone call from your school nurse if your child tests positive. No confirmatory testing is needed for a positive test, as SHIELD saliva testing is diagnostic. Your student will be placed on isolation and their unvaccinated siblings/close contacts will be required to quarantine upon notification of a positive test result.
The notifications of the tests results are as follows:
Negative – The virus was not detected.
Positive – The virus was detected.
Invalid – The sample provided was non-optimal and could not produce the appropriate data during processing at the lab.
Inconclusive – The sample was able to be processed in the lab, but it was not able to definitively provide detected/not detected results.
Rejected – The sample was not able to be processed at the lab.How to access results portal
The parent must first create a portal using the SHIELD Community Agency Code (below), then add their students as dependents. When adding a rostered student as a dependent, the unique email or mobile phone entered must match the value entered in the patient roster (please try the primary contact email that you have given the school district during registration to attempt to match the value in the portal). Once a match is found, parents will be able to access their student’s test results.
