On a recent spring morning, fifth grade students at Abraham Lincoln treated area senior citizens to a tea with all the trimmings. A highlight of the fifth grade experience, students plan and run the event (with some help from teachers and parents). They create the table decorations, serve the food, and greet and escort the guests to their seats. They also make delightful conversation, having studied up on the matter. “We learn that we should look people in the eye and not mumble,” said one student. They also provided entertainment, which ranged from classical violin to up-tempo dance duos.
