Science Night, Student-Faculty Night and Musical Mayhem

Discovery and Wonder at Lincoln's Science Night
Nearly 300 Lincoln students showed up for the recent Science Night, a PTA-sponsored event that is a big hit with the students and parents alike. Over the course of two hours students participated in 28 different hands-on science experiments geared to all levels from K to 5, with names like Perfectly Peculiar Paper Rings, Diapers – the inside story, One Step at a Time, and Fizzy Rockets. Some of the most popular involved making slime, flubber and oobleck – providing an introduction to polymers and non-Newtonian fluids. Simon Bare, a Lincoln parent who helped organize Science Night, said he's not sure who has more fun, the students or himself. Lincoln staff members and parents volunteered their time to make the event, which offered a hands-on approach to some important elementary concepts in chemistry, physics, math and engineering, a success.

Hadley Student-Faculty Night focuses on fun
At the recent Hadley Student-Faculty Night, staff members played a series of matches with the student volleyball and basketball teams. Although the student teams prevailed, the staff gave it their best effort. But the evening was really about celebrating being together, said Assistant Principal Kim Hefner. "It's a fun evening when kids can see their teachers as humans. The competitive aspect is not the priority, it's all about having fun and building connections." The well-attended event also yielded donations for the Glen Ellyn Food Pantry, with a $1 plus food can entrance fee. A highlight of the evening was the halftime dance show put on by staff members, which included the cha-cha slide. Staff members are pictured below rehearsing for the performance.

Musical Mayhem draws crowds
Students of all ages and their families participated in the annual Musical Mayhem event sponsored by the Music Education Foundation. Held at Hadley, the event raised money in support of music education and programs in D41 and offered a variety of games for all ages, a lip sync competition, cake walk, raffle, face painting, pizza, and more. Pictured are the lip sync performers of "Supercalifragilisitcexpealidocious" from the musical Mary Poppins.
