HADLEY PHYSICAL EDUCATION RECOGNIZED FOR WINNING BLUE RIBBON
Posted November 6, 2007

The Board of Education (BOE) read a proclamation in honor of the Hadley Physical Education program, which has won the Blue Ribbon Award for Excellence from the Illinois Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (IAHPERD). This is the second consecutive time the department has won the award, which recognizes excellence according to the standards established by the physical education profession and the Illinois State Board of Education. To select winners, IAHPERD sends a team to evaluate the program against its criteria. These criteria are extensive and cover many components of a program's curriculum, instructional approaches, equipment and facilities, safety and co- or extra-curricular opportunities. Hadley's PE program focuses on lifetime fitness and seeks to provide students of all ability levels with the skills and desire to be fit for life. The PE curriculum features a rotation of team and individual activities both outside and indoors, games, cardiovascular activities and systematic use of the Hadley Fitness Lab. Hadley Physical Education teachers Scott Dixon, Julie Odom, Tom Lofgren, Sarah Maher, Liz Hopkins, and Sam Szajkovics were on hand to receive the proclamation.
