Below are the results of the April 17 election, which brings three new members to the District 41 Board of Education. Voters also defeated the $40 million bond referendum to expand, renovate and restructure D41 schools.

Erica Nelson, Bob Solak and Steve Vondrak were elected and will be seated at the May 14 Board of Education meeting. Staff and community members are invited to a Farewell & Welcome Reception that will precede the May 14 meeting at 7 p.m. at Central Services, 793 N. Main St., Glen Ellyn. The reception is an opportunity to thank and honor departing Board Members Debbie Hoffman, John Marcheschi and Carol McElvain and welcome incoming Board Members. The reception will be followed by two short BOE meetings, one to conduct some concluding business and the second for the new Board to elect its officers and conduct other organizational tasks.

The facilities referendum to address overcrowding was defeated with 77.11% voting no and 22.89% voting yes (unofficial results pending canvassing). Superintendent Dr. Ann Riebock said, “We will continue to do what we can to manage space issues in the face of limited resources…we may increase class sizes, we may look at program placement, and we may adjust attendance area boundaries. These are commonsense options that the Boundary Advisory Committee has endorsed. And, we will continue to rely on the involvement and input of our staff and community in these decisions so that we manage enrollment challenges with as little disruption to student learning and family life as possible.”
