The public is invited to a meeting to review possible boundary adjustment scenarios for Glen Ellyn School District 41. The meeting will be held on Thursday, Nov. 30, 7:30 p.m. at Hadley Junior High, 240 Hawthorne Blvd., Glen Ellyn. The Boundary Advisory Committee, a group of parent volunteers representing the four elementary schools, has been asked to review D41 school attendance area boundaries to see if adjustments would create a better use of space in the face of district-wide crowding. On Nov. 30, boundary adjustment scenarios will be presented for resident review and feedback. The committee will take the input gathered at the meeting (and throughout the process) into account as it frames the recommendation it will present to the Board of Education on Monday, Dec. 18 at 7:30 p.m. The committee could recommend no change, moderate change or significant change. The committee is reviewing school attendance area boundaries; the overall D41 boundaries will not change. All addresses now within D41 will remain within D41, although the school assignment may change. Residents may send questions, comments or concerns to the committee at: boundaries@d41.org
Currently, all District 41 schools are over capacity; 26 portable classrooms deployed among the five schools provide additional classroom space, but common spaces such as hallways, libraries and gyms remain stressed. 'The committee’s job is to assess current space use including classrooms and core spaces such as libraries, examine various boundary scenarios, and decide what if any boundary adjustments would provide sufficient district-wide improvement to support changing them,' said Superintendent Dr. Ann Riebock. 'The goal of the committee is to create a recommendation that makes the best use of existing space and serves the best interest of the District as a whole.' The Board of Education will review the recommendation at its Dec. 18 regular meeting, with a view toward making a decision as early as Jan 22.
