Legislative Breakfast focuses on local action
Community members are invited to enjoy a light breakfast and discuss education issues at the Legislative Breakfast on Saturday, Sept. 29 from 8:30 - 10 a.m. Presented by Glen Ellyn School District 41’s PTA Council and Administration, the breakfast will be held in the Hadley Junior High School library, 240 Hawthorne Blvd., Glen Ellyn. The theme for this year is "Legislation as a Local Issue," and featured guests include State Senator Dan Cronin, State Representative Sandra Pihos, Regional Superintendent Dr. Darlene Ruscitti and Legislative Education Network of DuPage lobbyist Peggy Agnos. Attendees will have a chance to get to know the speakers and learn how citizens at the local level can make their voices heard and have an impact on government. Those who have attended previous Legislative Breakfasts will note a new format featuring large-group conversation so that all participants can hear the same discussion. As always, the event is free and includes a breakfast in a friendly, informal setting. To reserve your place, please call Maureen Stecker, 534-7236, or email mstecker@d41.org.
"Springfield and Washington D.C. seem a long way off, but we at home can influence what happens there if we are educated on the issues and know how to make an impact," says Erica Nelson, Co-Chair of the event. "The breakfast is an ideal time to learn more about making your voice count. We welcome everyone in the community, regardless of whether they have children in school or live within District 41."
