Glen Ellyn School District 41
  June 21, 2006
Board fills two administrative positions
The Glen Ellyn School District 41 Board of Education has approved Karen Carlson as the new Assistant Superintendent for Teaching, Learning and Accountability, and Laurie Campbell as the new Director of Human Resources, both effective July 1. Karen Carlson comes to the district from North Shore School District 112, where she has been the Principal of Wayne Thomas School since 2003. Currently, Laurie Campbell is the Principal of Abraham Lincoln School in District 41, a position she has held since 2004. “Karen and Laurie are outstanding professionals with many achievements to their credit, and I am delighted they have accepted these leadership positions,” said incoming Superintendent Dr. Ann Riebock.

Karen Carlson began her career as a teacher in 1984, and has been an elementary principal in District 112 as well as in Elgin Unit District 46. She has also been a learning disabilities teacher and a special education supervisor. As an instructional leader, she has worked with data in a continuous improvement cycle, created and revised curriculum, developed staff training to support curricular goals and developed an award-winning teacher mentoring program. She has a BS in Special and Elementary Education from Eastern Illinois University, an MS in Educational Administration from Northern Illinois University and is an adjunct professor for Concordia University.

An educator for the past 19 years, Laurie Campbell has experience in human resource management as a building administrator. Prior to joining District 41, she was a principal in Schaumburg District 54, an assistant principal in Hinsdale District 181, and a curriculum coordinator and classroom teacher in Wilmette District 39. She has a BS in Elementary Education from the University of Illinois, and an MS in School Administration from Northwestern University. She also serves on the Board of Directors for the Glen Ellyn Resource Center.

The two positions provide administrative leadership in key areas. The Assistant Superintendent for Teaching, Learning and Accountability works closely with the District’s Learning Leadership Team to achieve continuous improvement in the curricular, instructional, and assessment programs for all students. This position is also responsible for supervising grants and designated programs. District 41 is one of the largest employers in the area, and the Human Resource Director is responsible for recruitment, retention, and benefits administration as well as overseeing staff evaluation processes. The HR Director works closely with the Professional Development Team and others to provide staff training that aligns with District goals.

Karen will replace Dr. John Correll, who leaves June 30 to become the Superintendent in Salt Creek District 48, and Laurie will replace Michael Fustin, who leaves June 30 to become an Assistant Superintendent in Western Springs District 101. District 41 will now conduct a search for a principal for Abraham Lincoln. “I can assure the community that we will all work together to provide a smooth transition at Lincoln for students, staff and parents,” said Dr. Riebock.
