E-News Survey Report
Many thanks to those who participated in the E-news survey. The goal for E-News is to provide a window into our schools and show you how your investment in public education is benefiting students. Your feedback is important, and you never have to wait for a survey to give your suggestions or ask a question, so please feel free to call or email me regarding any district communication. While I can’t promise that all suggestions will be acted on, all feedback is considered and is helpful. Below is a summary of the survey results followed by the results for each question.
Again, thank you for participating in the survey.

E-News Survey summary:
Approximately 10% of subscribers responded (240). Of those, 70% were parents, 24% were staff and the rest were community members or in the “other” category. Overall, the results were positive and tell us that E-News should be continued. While E-News could benefit from some tweaking, it does not need a major overhaul.
Results by question:
Subscribers said they wanted articles on the following topics (rank ordered from high to low): curriculum (63%), classroom activities (53%), District initiatives (45%), student achievement (43%), Board of Ed matters (38%), District finances (35%), school funding (35%), student recognition (32%), and volunteer opportunities (27%). Suggestions in the “other” category included such things as information on PTA speakers, and school schedules. Overall, subscribers were satisfied with the frequency (89%), length (89%), and depth of information (86%). Respondents were divided on whether E-news should be shorter and more frequent (54%), or longer and less frequent (46%). However, as one respondent pointed out, the survey did not offer an option to choose the status quo. Regarding overall satisfaction with E-news, 64% said they were very satisfied with E-news, 35% said they were somewhat satisfied, and 1% said they were not satisfied. The comment section yielded a variety of perspectives and many questions. Since the survey was anonymous, I encourage respondents to call or email me directly if they would like an answer to their question or to discuss their comment.
There were some general questions that can be addressed here:
How do you subscribe to E-news?
It’s easy. Subscribe by clicking on the mailbox icon on our home page and following the prompts. Subscription information is included in much of our printed information. If you are a parent and you provided D41 with your email address in your registration packet, your email was automatically entered into the E-news subscription list. Anyone may subscribe to E-News.
How do you unsubscribe?
There is a link at the bottom of each email. If you have any issues with or changes to your E-News account please send an email to webmaster@d41.org
Does E-news information get sent to the newspapers?
Yes. There are two ways this happens. First, all our local newspapers are on the distribution list. Second, many news items are also sent via traditional press release to the local media.
How are items selected?
Sometimes teachers, PTA members or others send in items to be included. Others are “covered” specifically for E-News. Some E-News items are cross-communicated in other district vehicles. A note about student recognition: It is D41 practice not to use student names on the Web, so student recognition items (like winners of various contests) are not included in E-news, although press releases are often sent.
Why do some schools get more coverage than others?
Interestingly, a number of respondents asked this, but had different opinions on which schools got more E-News press. Over the course of the school year, it works out to be a pretty even distribution.
Why do parents get some information in both E-News and in paper (like Board Highlights)?
Not everyone has access to email, so the district feels it is better to have overlap on the basic communication items, like Board Highlights. Again, Thank you for subscribing to E-News and taking time to provide us with your thoughts.
