Kirk Samples appointed principal of Benjamin Franklin
On Monday, April 16, the Board of Education confirmed the appointment of Kirk Samples as Principal of Benjamin Franklin School effective July 1. Currently, Kirk is the Assistant Superintendent for Standards, Assessment, Evaluation and Technology in West Aurora School District 129, a 12,000-student unit district serving West Aurora, North Aurora, Montgomery and Sugar Grove. He has also served in that district as the Assistant Superintendent for Academic Support, and as a principal for three years. Prior to that, he was a classroom teacher in Naperville District 204. Kirk earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Illinois, his Masters in Teaching from National Louis University, and is working on his Doctor of Education degree at Northern Illinois University.

Kirk started his working life in the carpentry and contracting business before becoming inspired by family members to pursue a career in education. "I believe Kirk will bring a wealth of talent to our district and will be a wonderful addition to the District 41 community," said Superintendent Dr. Ann Riebock. "I am delighted that a person of Kirk’s experience, professional skills and personal qualities will be joining District 41."

Kirk Samples will replace departing Principal Susan Miller, who is leaving June 30 to take a position as the Director of Teaching and Learning in Mundelein School District 75.
