District 41 to host 3 referendum forums
The community is invited to attend community forums to learn more about Glen Ellyn School District 41's April 17 bond referendum to expand and renovate its schools. District 41 schools are overcrowded, and the district houses nearly 600 children (15% of its enrollment) in 26 portable classrooms, and libraries, gyms, lunchrooms, bathrooms and hallways are at or near capacity. If the referendum passes, by the time this building project is complete, it will have been 12 years since the schools were enlarged. The $40 million bond referendum would allow the district to expand its schools and make needed renovations to existing space. Approximately $36 million would fund improvements at Hadley Junior High. The school, which now serves students in grades six through eight, would be enlarged to accommodate the fifth grades. The resulting 5-8 campus would house grades five and six in one wing and grades seven and eight in another, each with its own entrance, schedules, arrival and dismissal time and bus routes. Approximately $4 million would fund improvements among the four elementary schools.
