| Hadley dress code information Due to recent media attention, the dress code at Hadley has come into the public eye. Hadley has had the same dress code (printed below) for several years and believes its code is fair and allows plenty of student choice and latitude relative to style. Among the code's provisions is the requirement that skirts be no shorter than mid-thigh. However, this year, the popularity of the micro-mini skirt has prompted increased efforts to ensure student compliance to the dress code. The staff has done its best to apply the dress code consistently and with tact. Micro-mini skirts may in fact be worn, so long as the student wears leggings or mid-thigh shorts underneath. A student who comes to school in inappropriate attire may call someone to bring him or her a change of clothes or change into a gym uniform for the rest of the day. Anyone who has a dress code question or concern should first read the dress code below (printed on page six of the District 41 Handbook), and call the school office if they still have questions. DRESS CODE (as it appears on page 6 of the 2006 District 41 Student Handbook) Students should always dress appropriately for the weather, especially in elementary school because they often have recess outside. Parents are asked to make sure their child is neat, clean and dressed in good taste. Dress or appearance which presents a health or safety hazard, disrupts the educational process or which is prohibited by school dress requirements should not be worn to school or school-sponsored events. Articles of clothing are to be worn in the fashion for which they were designed. Hats or other headgear are not to be worn inside school buildings.
While only Hadley Junior High has a written dress code, below, Hadley's code provides helpful guidance for students at all grade levels: The Hadley Junior High Dress Code All students are expected to observe the basic standards of cleanliness, modesty, and good grooming. Students' dress must not disrupt the educational process, interfere with the maintenance of a positive teaching and learning climate, or compromise reasonable standards of health, safety, and decency. If a student's dress is deemed inappropriate, the student will change into his/her P.E. uniform or appropriate clothing. Failure to do so may result in appropriate disciplinary consequences. The following guidelines for student dress and appearance are in effect: . All students shall be clean in personal grooming and attire. . Clothing displaying obscenities, implied vulgarity, or sexual references will not be permitted. . Clothing that is excessively revealing, such as mini-skirts, short shorts, tank tops, loose fitting and low cut halter-tops will not be permitted. Skirts/shorts must be at or near mid-thigh. No underwear should be showing. . Hats, caps, bandannas, hoods, or sunglasses will not be worn in the building. Failure to honor this request may result in the item being confiscated. Any medical exceptions must be cleared through the office. . Clothing with gang symbolism and attire symbolic of gangs are not permitted. . Clothing with alcohol, tobacco, or controlled substances decoration or references is not permitted. . Pajamas are not acceptable dress at school.
